Jupiter Has Been Hit
A new black spot on Jupiter was likely caused by an impact over the weekend that took astronomers by surprise.
Slightly smaller across than Earth, the temporary spot was caused by a recent but unobserved comet or asteroid impact, said Glenn Orton, an astronomer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.
"It's very clear that this is an impact," Orton said.
First spotted by Australian amateur astronomer Anthony Wesley on July 19, the blemish appears as a dark gray blob on the gas giant's south pole.

Woman Who Boiled Man's Head Jailed

A woman in China who boiled a man's head in a soup because she believed it would cure her daughter's psychiatric problems has been given a suspended one-year jail sentence, a local newspaper said Tuesday.
Lin Zongxiu, from the southwestern province of Sichuan, heard in 2008 that soup made with a man's head could help cure her daughter who had suffered from psychiatric problems for years, the Chengdu Commercial Newspaper reported.
Lin and her husband decided to enlist the help of a man in December who knocked unconscious a drunk 76-year-old passer-by before beheading him, the paper said.
